| Testimonials Still not sure about Toastmasters? Read the testimonials from our club members below... "I was terrified of public speaking and I mean terrified. I used to get up, rush through my words like a high speed train in order to sit back down again as quickly as possible. I have been on countless courses through work, but nothing seemed to work. I just thought, this is me, I hate being the centre of attention and I will never be any good at public speaking. How wrong could I be? I joined Toastmasters because I wanted to get better, I wanted to be able to speak in public with a relative ease. I joined Toastmasters in 2008 and I have just been awarded competent communicator after completing my tenth speech. To top it off, I won best speaker. I have recently given presentations in work and my manager and colleagues said that I have a gift. My reply to them was, "If I have a gift, that gift was given to me by Toastmasters" It hasn't just changed my ability to give presentations, it has improved my overall communication skills. The great thing about Toastmasters is you can work at your own pace as everybody is very busy these days, but when you attend a Toastmasters meeting, you are learning through osmosis. I have two children under 5 so time is precious for me. Come along to Toastmasters, it could change your life and you can have some fun along the way." Leonie Roberts - Competent Communicator |
"I went to Toastmasters to see if I could get confident in speaking to groups of people, so that when I had to do it I could just be myself, not nervous. I thought of it mainly as training, and I suppose my biggest worry was that it would be boring or naff. Well it is training, but I hadn't expected it to be so much fun, you make friends then you don't want to miss a meeting. Oh and I have just done a 45 minute talk at work, the first since I joined Toastmasters - I felt so much more at ease, I really enjoyed it." Five |
"I used to be one of those people that got really nervous before an audience. I would go red and shake, and I always spoke too fast. I finally plucked up the courage to go along to Toastmasters, after reading about it on a number of websites, and I haven't looked back since. The club members are always welcoming and very supportive. You get an opportunity to speak at most sessions, and although the nerves are still there, the redness and shaking have gone. A lot of people want to come along but are a little nervous about taking the first step - my advice is to just do it. It really is a step worth taking." Emily |
